With an exceptional geographical location in the heart of Europe , a few kilometers from the Swiss and Italian borders, the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Valley is easily accessible by plane, train or road.

The Montenvers Train

The Montenvers railway was the first construction in the valley, specially made for tourist purposes. It has been in circulation since 1908.

The Montenvers Train will take you to the Mer de Glace. The funicular train departs from Chamonix and climbs the slope of the Aiguilles de Chamonix to an altitude of 1913m.

The Montenvers train station site also includes a café and a restaurant from which you can enjoy some spectacular views of some of Chamonix's most prestigious peaks: les Drus (3754 m), the Grandes Jorasses (4205 m), the Aiguille du Grépon (3482 m).

Grotte de la Mer de Glace
The Mer de Glace

The Mer de Glace is one of the important sites in the Chamonix valley. It is the largest glacier in France (7 km long and 200 m thick).

In winter, thousands of skiers descend to Montenvers station after having made the famous "Vallée Blanche".

In the bowels of the glacier: an original collection of ice sculptures . The cave must be re-cut every summer because the glacier advances 70m every year. In winter, the cave is replaced by a small ice museum.

The Mont Blanc Tram Way

One of the last highest cogwheel trains in France awaits you for a journey of retro charm during which the alpine landscapes and Mont Blanc are discovered, majestic, over a timeless stroll.

In winter, it takes pedestrians and skiers to the Plateau de Bellevue (1800 m) and to the Prarion ski area for the pleasure of a most picturesque walk and the grandeur of an exceptional panorama. In summer, it takes you to the Eagle's Nest (2372 m).
